THE RANCH

Nestled in the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains of Southern Alberta, OU Ranch strives to raise the very best cutting, working cow horse and ranch horse prospects. Initially based out of Salt Coat, Saskatchewan, for Doug and Jackie Hines, breeding horses started as a hobby in 1976 and became an official passion in 1982. The OU Ranch mission statement was a simple one, and one that remains true today: "Raise good horses."

The OU brand doesn't have a hidden meaning, but it does have a history originating in the early 1900's. The "quarter circle OU" cattle brand was gifted to Doug's father by Frank Burns of Marwayne, AB, who later passed it down to Doug for his cattle operation. Wanting to retain its history, Doug later registered the "O over U" brand for his horses.

OU Ranch has been raising quarter horses for thirty plus years. With a band of over forty mares featuring daughters of High Brow Cat, Peptoboonsmal, TR Dual Rey, Once in a Blu Boon, One Time Pepto and CJ Sugar Lena to name a few. They currently use four cowbred stallions, sons of Docs Stylish Oak, Spots Hot, Rockin W and Hay Maker.

OU Ranch has access to some exceptional local trainers that they enjoy doing business with. They strive to raise good minded horses with good foot, bone and structure. Visitors are welcome to visit the ranch when looking for their next horse.
